Home to 29 of the largest companies in the United States, Ohio is a leader in machine-tool manufacturing and rubber tire production. The state is also a large producer of comic books and Chinese food products and home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Residents in Ohio can enjoy a variety of educational opportunities and outdoor activities–state parks, wildlife preserves, lakes, and rivers. NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine’s health center partners in Ohio are located in the western part of the state. According to a report released in 2014, Ohio’s individual and family poverty rates typically were lower than the corresponding national rates in decades past, but gradually converged to the national rates by about 2005. Since then Ohio’s rates have been nearly equal to or a little higher than the national averages. In 2013, 16% of people in Ohio had incomes below the poverty line ($23,834 for a family of four) and 22.3% of people under age 65 and below 138% of the poverty line did not have health insurance. NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine and its health center partners help to ensure equitable and affordable dental care while enhancing and honing the skills of postdoctoral dental practitioners.
