From Dr. Anna D’Emilio, Vice President & Program Director, Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD), NYU Langone Dental Medicine Postdoctoral Residency Programs.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Greg LaChance on February 1, 2021.
Dr. LaChance graduated from Georgetown University School of Dentistry. Through the National Health Service Corps, he was hired by the El Rio Community Health Center in Tucson, Arizona where he practiced community-based dentistry for 40 years.
During his tenure, Greg was a pioneer with establishing dental postdoctoral residency training at El Rio through an affiliation with the Lutheran Medical Center AEGD residency program, now known as NYU Langone Dental Medicine. For 24 years, he nurtured and grew the AEGD residency program at El Rio which continues to flourish, and he later helped to establish our Pediatric Dentistry residency program that experiences the same success.
As the Dental Director at El Rio, he oversaw the growth and expansion of the department from one dental site to seven dental clinics generating over 50,000 annual patient visits. His steadfast leadership has been an inspiration furthering the cause of community-based dentistry and promoting equity to access and quality of care for all. He impacted upon the lives of countless patients throughout Arizona as well as dental professionals across the country.
In 2020, Greg retired from his position at El Rio Health and stepped down as Site Director of the NYU Langone Dental Medicine AEGD Program. A leader, educator, colleague and friend, Greg will be forever remembered for his compassion, dedication and service.
