Formed in 1997, the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) provides a wide range of high quality health services to Alaska Native and American Indian people in pursuit of the vision that Alaska Native people are the healthiest people in the world. Managed and operated by the Alaska Native people it serves, ANTHC is a not-for-profit health organization that provides statewide services in specialty medical care through the Alaska Native Medical Center hospital; construction of water, sanitation and health facilities; training, health education, disease and injury prevention; information technology; and professional recruiting for our Tribal health partners. ANTHC has pioneered the use of telemedicine and community, dental and behavioral health aides to improve access to health services for Alaska Native people in rural locations. ANTHC offers a unique opportunity for a DPH resident to learn about innovative programs that provide access to dental care for underserved populations. The residency also offers an opportunity to implement research projects on the use of tele-dentistry and dental health aides (DHAs). Drs. Mary Williard and Sarah Shoffstall-Cone will provide on-site supervision to the DPH resident. Dr Williard, DDS, is Director of the ANTHC Department of Oral Health Promotion and Director of the DHAT program. Dr Sarah Shoffstall-Cone, DDS, MPH, is Clinical Site Director for the DENTEX program that prepares DHATS to provide care for Alaska Native communities.
