Kokua Kalihi Valley provides comprehensive healthcare, dental care and outreach services to the city and county of Honolulu and urban community of Kalihi Valley. KKV also provides on-site services at five elementary and secondary schools. KKV staff speaks a number of different languages and dialects: English (including pidgin), Filipino (Ilocano, Tagalog, Visayan, Cebuano), Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin, Taiwanese, Tieuchau), Burmese, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, Samoan, Tongan, Laotian, Micronesian (Chuukese, Panapei), and Hindi. KVV’s dental program brings preventive and restorative dental care to the residents of Kalihi Valley and is one of the few dental clinics in the country that provides professional educational opportunities through its AEGD dental residency program, directed by Dr. Samuel Ishimura, and Pediatric Dentistry Specialty Residency Program. Since 1995, KKV has run a Dental Sealant Program at local elementary and middle schools, providing screenings and dental sealants to nearly 3,000 students each year. Ten Pediatric Dentistry residents typically rotate between 3 health center locations - KKV, Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center and West Hawaii Community Health Center (Keiki Health Center).
