Choptank Community Health’s dental program offers an accredited one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program (AEGD) with the option of a second year focused on Public Health. The department is committed to providing excellent advanced education in general dentistry to individuals who plan to seek careers in general dentistry.
Located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Choptank Community Health System, Inc. (CCHS) is a private, non-profit community health center providing primary health care services in Caroline, Dorchester, and Talbot Counties and the surrounding areas. CCHS health centers provide a full range of primary medical, dental, and behavioral health services. All CCHS dental sites are equipped with the state-of-the-art dental equipment including but not limited to digital x-rays, intra-oral cameras and Nitrous oxide sedation. We also administer a hospital based OR program in collaboration with a local hospital in Dorchester County to provide comprehensive dental treatment to children under general anesthesia.
Intensive clinical and didactic training in comprehensive care of the dental patient with complex medical issues, critical thinking, and treatment planning are the top priorities of our program. In addition, the CCHS AEGD program provides advanced training in the dental specialties including on-site oral surgery and pediatric dentistry. We have recently expanded our dental program to include a Board-certified Pediatric dentist and Board certified Oral-Maxillofacial Surgeon that our dental residents will have the opportunity to train under. In fact, we are expanding our dental program in 2019 to add an additional dental center with Pediatric focus at our new Denton facility. Our staff dentists have extensive training in prosthodontics, endodontics and periodontics. Therefore, we are able to offer a comprehensive AEGD program in an effort to expand the treatment repertoire practiced by our graduates. Our AEGD dental residents traditionally rotate between two of our three CODA approved AEGD resident sites at Federalsburg, Cambridge and Goldsboro locations depending on which sites suit their needs.
Didactic instruction is an important component of our program. CCHS is partnered with another local AEGD program to provide ongoing lectures, seminars, hands-on continuing education courses and other presentations that cover a wide range of advanced dental topics. Recently we were able to offer Invisalign certification and hands-on implant and oral surgery courses as part of our ongoing efforts to provide educational training to our residents.
