New York- NYU College of Dentistry- AEGD

The mission of the NYU College of Dentistry (NYUCD) is to partner with students, residents and faculty in achieving academic excellence, providing the best oral health care, and engaging in research, scholarship, and creative endeavors to improve the health of the highly diverse populations in New York City and around the world. NYUCD’s vision is to become the dental institution with the greatest impact globally on the health of society. The College of Dentistry was founded in 1865 and by 1925 became the third oldest and the largest dental school in the United States. In 2001 two preclinical simulation labs opened and in 2002, the only dental school-based research center opened and provides beds for 24-hour patient monitoring. Today the College, with an annual budget exceeding $180 million, occupies three buildings on First Avenue and several satellite office spaces. The main buildings house, classrooms, seminar rooms, state-of-the-art study spaces, research laboratories and over 500 dental/surgical treatment operatories. Over 3000 individuals visit our facility daily. The College has a robust and diverse patient pool with nearly 70,000 active and recall patients coming to the facilities representing nearly 280,000 visits performing over 650,000 procedures annually. The composition of the patient population is estimated to be Black/African American 25%, Hispanic 25%, Asian 20%, Caucasian 20% and 10% other. Age distribution by number of visits: 0-6: 6%, 7-15: 10%, 16-26: 13%, 27-65: 58%, >66: 13%. Medicaid and managed care patients represent approximately 38% of our patient visits with the remaining patients who self-pay. NYU Langone Dental Medicine residents will strongly complement the College’s mission of growing highly competent general practitioners. Our new NYU Langone affiliation is committed to developing the leadership skills of residents, will utilize NYUCD’s state-of-the-art facilities and expand the utilization of exceptional faculty. Residents will concentrate on adult population care including developmentally disabled, medically compromised and general adult care. Care will be delivered in a general dentistry clinical facility equipped with state of the art electronic health record, digital radiology and Sirona CAD/CAM capture and milling equipment.
