Lima Community Health Center facility currently partners with three sister sites; Lima Dental, Spencerville Dental and New Bremen Dental Associates, to provide the highest level of care to all patients. In addition, the center is planning a significant expansion in 2016 to better serve the community, which will create a prime opportunity for residents, while maintaining the same proximity to the more advanced Implant and I.V training offered through rotations to other affiliated facilities. Motivated dental professionals at the Lima facility spend time training 4th-year dental students from The Ohio State University. NYU Langone Dental Medicine residents can expect to become proficient practitioners in providing comprehensive oral healthcare in the increasingly complex world of dentistry; to become highly skilled, motivated, business-wise professionals focused on comprehensive care for all patients while reducing the chance of single-mindedness in patient care and treatment planning. At Lima Community Health Center, residents will use state of the art technology utilizing Sirona panoramic radiographs, as well as low-radiation x-rays and Dentrix software, for paperless charting. For patient care and comfort, residents become highly skilled in providing I.V. and oral sedation for patients who request it. To that end, residents will be trained on and receive certification in I.V. sedation. Clinically, Lima Community supports all forms of fixed and removable prosthetics, from complete and partial dentures, to crowns and bridges where applicable (and affordable). In addition, the facility handles simple and surgical extractions and anterior and posterior endodontics, including molar. Furthermore, Lima Community partners with its sister facilities to provide numerous other advanced treatments, such as implant placement and restoration, bone grafting, sleep apnea, TMD and orofacial pain disorders and CAD/CAM treatment options. Several times per month, dentists from the sister facilities will rotate through the Lima Community to provide common and specialized treatment. Residents will have the opportunity to see a wide array of patient demographics to put their skills to work, from adults of all ages, to children, and the physically and developmentally challenged, all with a patient volume that can far exceed that of most private offices. Lima Community Health Center is committed to enriching the community within and outside the local regions. Patient population is comprised of 17% aged 1 through 11; 16% aged 12 through 17; 41% aged 18 through 55 and 56% aged 56 and over. The facilities treat over 8,000 patients annually.
Lima Community Dental is part of the Ohio Region’s AEGD-PDEE (Pediatric Dentistry Enhanced Experience) program. The AEGD-PDEE program includes learning from an array of nationally recognized Pediatric dentists through additional seminars and reading materials on pediatric dentistry topics. These additional meetings will be added morning sessions at the monthly regional day meetings. This will better prepare each general dentist with the skill set to provide good dental care to all but the most challenging kids
